Poundland has gone back to its roots by launching a £1 own label range to help those struggling with the cost of living.
The discount chain's new Manor Grove range is a rival to the likes of Heinz and will include ketchup, mayonnaise and salad cream in similar branded product packaging, with all products costing £1.
This may sound like great news to shoppers struggling with the rising cost of their branded favourites, however, there is a catch to the Poundland products.
The items in the range are smaller than branded products, for example the Manor Grove ketchup is 17% smaller than Heinz’s offering, at 380g versus 460g.
Although, as it costs £1 compared to the usual RRP of £3.40 for Heinz Tomato Ketchup, it works out much cheaper overall.
The own-label items, which are now being rolled out in all 700 Poundland stores in the coming weeks, will also include other popular condiments such as BBQ sauce, brown sauce and gravy granules.
Poundland has confirmed that more products were planned to be added to the range soon.
Shoppers will be happy to hear that the Manor Grove items will also be available to buy online at Poundland's website Poundshop.com.
Poundland's Manor Grove trademark is registered by private label advisory firm Baleigh Investments and applies to a long list of condiments and sauces, as well as tinned food and oils.
A Poundland spokesperson said: "We know that UK branded ketchup prices were recently highlighted as being some of the highest in Europe.
"So whether people are red or brown sauce fans, we hope the launch of a new range exclusive to our stores gives a bit of bacon butty relief."
After years of transitioning to being a multi-price business, the firm has been returning to its original £1 value price point as a consequence of the cost of living crisis.
Hundreds of items have been rolled back to £1, but so far this has mainly focused on brands.
A price "reset" in stores last year saw new £1 lines added including Cadbury Dairy Milk 95g, Gillette Shave Foam 200ml and Domestos Bleach 750ml.
It also launched an online range of 177 £1 "value heroes" featuring brands such as Pot Noodle, Fairy washing-up liquid and Nivea toiletries.
This has meant the proportion of Poundland's range of items that cost £1 or less has gone up from around half to 60%.
