Poundland jug could save households over £300 a year as cost of living crisis hits

A £5 water jug from Poundland could save households over £300 a year as the cost of living crisis continues to hit families.

Prices are set to rise from April 1 as the energy cap increases by 54 per cent, so cheap ways to ease pressure on monthly spending could prove useful in the coming months. And Poundland's AQUAPHOR water filters claim they can help to reduce this impact by cutting down how much people spend on buying bottled water, the Manchester Evening News reported.

The company estimates that using a water filter jug can help save between £300 per year for a single person and £700 for a household of four. In a statement, AQUAPHOR's managing director, Nigel Wheeler, said: "We wipe out the need for obtaining clean water from the constant purchase of plastic bottles, we also reduce impact on the environment in terms of single-use plastics.

"Even low-cost plastic water bottles regularly purchased from Tesco adds up and can end up costing you up £1,000 a year. That's the extra spend households are going to have to find from the 1st April just to tread water."

"It's simple economics. AQUAPHOR keeps money in your back pocket, staving off the energy price hike."

According to AQUAPHOR, over 30% of households in Britain now have water filter jugs as an alternative to expensive plastic bottled water. Wheeler said: "The pandemic has well and truly sold Brits on the importance of clean water in terms of removing nasties from tap water."

The water filter industry is reportedly set to grow by six per cent globally over the next five years. And Wheeler added: "Everyone is clambering to water filter solutions to essentially Lifehack. It's a fantastic way of managing the lifespan of the filter without needing to pay for or install a battery."
