Having to say goodbye to a loved one is harrowing - especially when they leave this world long before their time. But one postal worker has made a special effort to try to ease a girl's heartache after losing her beloved grandfather.
The United States Postal Service worker created a 'proof of delivery' for Cherylynn who sent a letter to her 'Grandpa in Heaven'. The note reads: "The mail carrier came across your letter addressed to 'Grandpa in Heaven'. I wanted to take a minute out of my day to confirm that you know how important the letter is to us at the Post Office.
"We dispatched our special delivery personnel to ensure your letter was safety delivered to Heaven. I bet your Grandpa was most excited to receive your beautiful letter. Thank you for allowing us to deliver your amazing letter."
Touched by the note, the family shared it on social media, where it has since been picked up by Reddit users.
One user said: "Definitely brought a tear to my eye."
Another user added: "This was very sweet!"
A third user said: "I'm not crying, you're crying."
One more user added: "I think a lot of us needed this."
Another postal worker shared how she has received letters to Santa, Heaven, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy - and always makes sure they get 'delivered'.
She said: "I always feel a special responsibility to those who send these letters. Sometimes they are sweet, sad, funny or touching.
"It’s just about my favourite part of my job, even though I’d probably get in trouble if management found out."
