Post Office services restored to rural Perthshire villages

Post Office Ltd has confirmed times for the new outreach counters at Muthill, Lochearnhead and St Fillans.

A permanent hosted outreach service will operate from Muthill Village Hall at 45 Willoughby Street on Thursdays, from 10am to noon, commencing on Thursday, January 20.

And, following the closures of Lochearnhead and St Fillans hosted Post Office services, a new outreach service will be restored from Tuesday next week.

Lochearnhead Village Hall is the venue for the service on Tuesdays from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm, beginning on January 18.

The Lochside Larder at St Fillans will also accommodate the service from 10am to noon on Tuesdays.

Marlene Hobson of Comrie Post office will be providing the outreach counters.

Robert Sharp, network provision lead for the Post Office, explained: “The postmaster from Comrie Post Office is willing to run the service at these locations, which presents the best possible solution to restore Post Office services to the communities of Muthill, Lochernhead and St Fillans.

“The mobile service is a travelling Post Office aboard a specifically-designed vehicle that brings Post Office services and retail products to communities without relying on fixed premises that has formed part of our operational network for some years now.

“We constantly monitor the number of customers using Post Office services and we are confident that these changes will be welcomed by our customers in the local communities.”

With regards to the new service in Muthill, Mr Sharp added that the Post Office would welcome suggestions about specific aspects of the change, such as getting to the new location and the opening hours, and he would like to hear from residents once the service is up and running.

He added: “As we are keen to restore services to Muthill as soon as possible, we have decided to go ahead with our plans.

“Restoring the Muthill Post Office as a permanent hosted outreach is a commercial decision for Post Office Ltd and we are not seeking feedback on this aspect of the change.

“However, we would welcome suggestions about specific aspects of the change that might benefit customers, particularly on the following areas: how suitable you think the new location is and how easy it is to get there and comments on the proposed day and opening hours.

“We will be accepting comments until Friday, February 4.

“We won’t be responding to you individually, but any comments received will be taken into consideration as we finalise our plans.”
