Post husband’s death, Telangana woman uses frozen embryo to have baby

The birth of her first child, a son, brought joy into the life of a Telangana woman, who lost her husband to COVID-19 but conceived through an embryo that the couple had frozen earlier.

Prema and Kumar were undergoing IVF treatment at Oasis Fertility, Warangal, with the hope of conceiving a child. However, his death left Prema devastated and also created hurdles for her to have the baby as they had planned.

“Though consent of both husband and wife is needed for an embryo transfer in an IVF procedure, the High Court of Telangana, acting on a petition filed by Ms Prema and quoting previous judgments, granted permission for frozen embryo transfer,” said a press release.
