A woman has been taken to hospital with a head injury after a single-vehicle crash along a key road in Bristol. The A4 Portway was closed for more than five hours overnight as a result of the collision.
Officers were called to the Portway at 9.50pm last night (August 22) to reports of a single-vehicle crash. In a statement, the force said a woman was taken to hospital with a head injury not believed to be life-threatening after the car she was driving hit a barrier.
The road was then closed in both directions from Sylvan Way to Bridge Valley Road until 3am so enquiries could be carried out at the scene. A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "At 9.50pm last night emergency services deployed to the A4 Portway following a single vehicle collision.

"A woman was taken to Southmead Hospital by ambulance with a head injury which isn’t believed to be life threatening after the Vauxhall Corsa she was driving collided with a barrier. The road was closed in both directions while enquiries were carried out at the scene and the vehicle was recovered."
The spokesman said the road reopened at 3am.
