Portugal only squeezed past a spirited Slovenia in the last 16, thanks to Diogo Costa's late one-on-one save and shootout heroics, and with barely any thanks at all to prize peacock Cristiano Ronaldo. CR7 is yet to score this tournament and insisted on taking every free-kick (badly), before seeing a penalty saved to spark a teary meltdown of epic proportions. Anyone know the German for schadenfreude?
France have also flattered to deceive, yet the big-time behemoths are here again for a sixth quarter-final in their last seven major tournaments. Les Bleus' 1-0 last-16 defeat of Belgium was pretty turgid fare and Didier Deschamps' side had to to rely on Jan Vertonghen's own goal (from Randal Kolo Muani's shot). But as the Water Carrier has always said, they're not here to play well, they're here to win.

How to watch Portugal vs France for FREE in the UK
Use a VPN to watch FREE from anywhere
Portugal vs France is free on BBC One/BBC iPlayer for viewers in the UK. Outside the UK? No problem. If you're away from home and want to tune into BBC iPlayer as normal, you can use a VPN so that you don't get blocked by the broadcaster.
A Virtual Private Network (VPN), assuming it complies with your broadcaster’s T&Cs, creates a private connection between your device and t'internet, meaning the service can’t work out where you are and will let you watch. And all the info going between is entirely encrypted, anonymous and safe – and that's a result.
There are plenty of good-value options out there but, for Euro 2024, FourFourTwo recommends:
NordVPN is basically a tap-in:
1. Install it: NordVPN
2. Fire it up and choose your service. So, if you want to watch a UK streaming service, choose the UK server.
3. Enjoy the game. Open up the iPlayer and watch the stream.
Portugal vs France live stream: team news
Portugal have no fresh injury or suspension worries going into this quarter-final. They do, however, have to consider how Cristiano Ronaldo will recover, mentally, from his on-field meltdown in the last 16. CR7 is certain to start, but maybe he should let one of the boys have a go at some free-kicks.
Elsewhere, Roberto Martinez may bring in an extra midfield enforcer for this one, with Danilo Pereira among the possibilities.
France know they'll be without midfielder Adrien Rabiot for this one, the Juventus man missing through suspension.
Who will replace him depends on how attacking Deschamps wants to be. If he wants to keep a midfield three, Eduardo Camavinga seems most likely to come in, but the France boss could also select from Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele or Randal Kolo Muani if he wants to play a 4-2-3-1 and an extra attacker.
