Volunteers are needed for an urgent clean-up after the Grand Canal was left desecrated by rubbish this weekend.
The event planning service Alternative Dublin have organised the clean-up in response to the incident. Dubliners took to the canal as temperatures soared above 20 degrees on Friday, leaving hundreds of discarded cans and other waste items in their wake.
A local councillor has hit out at the shocking levels of litter on the canal and led calls for a 24/7 cleaning crew in the area. Alternative Dublin are encouraging anyone with free time on Sunday morning to get involved with their community-focused clean up.

Diarmuid McCleary of Alternative Dublin said: "It seems people are sick of this happening every year and we are hoping to shape behaviours and attitudes. Tomorrow morning we are hoping to cover the whole Portobello canal and asking volunteers to join us at 9am."
The group will supply all necessary cleaning products but anyone with spare black bags, cleaning gloves and other equipment is encouraged to bring them along. Alternative Dublin is also encouraging local businesses willing to supply water and food tomorrow morning to get in touch.
The clean-up takes place from 9am until noon on Sunday morning, with people convening in front of Atlas Language School in Portobello. Volunteers can register for a free ticket through Eventbrite.
