Portland State University President Ann Cudd has addressed the ongoing student protest at the university library, urging the protesters to voluntarily vacate the premises. In a statement posted on Instagram, Cudd expressed a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with the students but emphasized that the occupation of Millar library cannot continue.
Cudd stated, 'We're deeply concerned for the safety of everyone. We want you to come out of the library. I'm asking you to please, especially the students, please, voluntarily leave the library. I want to talk with you.'
While no specific deadline has been set for the protesters to leave, the Portland Police Bureau has been contacted to assist in removing the occupiers from the library. The police department confirmed that they are working in collaboration with PSU and other city bureaus but did not disclose details of their tactical planning process.
The situation remains ongoing as the university administration seeks a peaceful resolution to the protest. President Cudd's call for dialogue underscores the university's commitment to addressing the concerns of the students while ensuring the safety and security of all individuals involved.
