Popular north London Irish pub shuts its doors after 32 years

After more than 30 years of serving Guinness to Londoners, a beloved boozer in Stoke Newington has announced it has closed.

Ryan’s N16 on Church Street, the boutique high street near Clissold Park, posted on social media that it would be serving its last orders.

In a post on Instagram, the family-owned Irish pub said: “After 32 great years it is time to say goodbye to Ryan's N16.

“We will be pulling our final pints from 2pm - 6pm on Sunday the 28th of December 2025.

“We want to thank all our lovely customers for the memories and boy there are a few! We hope to see some of you Sunday to say goodbye. Love, Ged and family.”

The pub did not share why it was closing.

Ryan’s was a popular community-focused pub in the area, with a beer garden and private space downstairs that you could hire for free.

It was the go-to spot for watching live sports, with seven screens showing major matches including Premier League games.

Ryan’s held a number of community events until its closure, including a free Lino Christmas Card making workshop and Turkish stand up night.

Between 2004 and 2024 London lost an estimated 930 pubs, according to ONS data.

However, certain parts of the city fared better than others over the years. In some boroughs, figures were on the up last year. Camden had more pubs in 2024 (245) than at any time since 2013. Lambeth in 2024 can count 160 pubs, the highest number since 2009.

Hackney, where Ryan’s is located, saw no difference.
