A customer has compared a Manchester bar to being like 'Mr Bean' in a '1940s mine' in a baffling review posted online.
The Alchemist, located on Hardman Street in Spinningfields, received a one star review from the customer on TripAdvisor last week stating that service was ‘extremely poor’ and said they felt that staff were ‘not interested’ in serving them.
The reviewer went on to urge people to ‘avoid’ and described the venue during their visit in December as ‘overrated’.

In the review, simply named ‘Dbdnf’, user UniqueHomeFitnessTv posted: “OVERRATED. We walked in staff looked not interested. It was that dark in there that it was hard to see were we was walking.”
The reviewer added: “Took the staff 15 minutes for our drinks, I just wanted to walk out. We had a few sips of our drink and almost threw up, i honestly felt like Mr bean.
“We then got the bill and I pulled out a torch to guide us [out]. It was like being in a mine in the 1940s.”
The cocktail bar and restaurant, which opened in 2010, is the birthplace of the original Alchemist and one of three venues under the brand name in Manchester. The Spinningfields venue underwent a £550,000 makeover featuring new interiors and menus last year.
The venue publicly responded to the one-star review on TripAdvisor saying they were ‘sorry to hear’ of the disappointing visit. The representative for the bar asked the user to reach out with more information on their visit so they could investigate matters.
In a further statement to the M.E.N regarding the review, a spokesperson for The Alchemist said: “We welcome all feedback and have a platform in which we monitor and respond to all reviews, from all guests and ensure that we’re offering the best experience.
“When guests leave negative feedback we contact them, investigate the review, and then invite them in again to ensure they have a great time with us.”
