Popular LING lunches return to New Galloway after two year absence

LING lunches have made a popular return after a two year absence.

Local Initiatives in New Galloway (LING) is running the weekly get togethers in the town hall following the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Everyone is welcome to go along on a Tuesday between 12.30pm and 2pm, or for elevenses, to enjoy food from Love to Eat as well a catch up with other locals.

LING chairman Ros Hill said; “When we took on the town hall in 2016 there was already a lunch club and it was predominantly elderly people which isn’t surprising because of the demographic.

“We had around 20 people, which maybe doesn’t sound like many but is a lot for New Galloway.”

“They are open to everyone. People who maybe work part-time come in and families come too. There’s also people from Dalry come over.”

LING was granted ownership of the town hall by the council for a token £1 sum earlier this year.

It is currently working on refurbishing the building and aims to use grant funding to upgrade the toilets and install a lift.

There are a wide range of community activities including crafts groups on Monday afternoons, carpet bowls and table tennis on Tuesday evenings, martial arts on Thursday nights, as well as zumba, yoga and bingo.
