Popular Leeds sandwich shop put up for sale as owner walks away 'on health grounds'

A popular Armley sandwich shop is sadly closing its doors after two years in business.

For sale signs are up outside Morning Star Sandwich Bar in Armley Ridge Road. It has been reported that the shop's owner George Mitchell has put the business up for sale on 'health grounds'.

The news will come as a shock to many customers who used the eatery on a daily basis. It raked in four and five star reviews and became renowned for its "great service", "friendly staff", and "lovely sandwiches". It sells a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes, and breakfasts.

The sandwich shop will remain open over Easter weekend, and a final day of service is yet to be confirmed. The premises are being sold for an asking price of £29.,950. The business makes an annual turnover of £119,600, according to the sale page.

The for sale advert reads: "Sandwich bar in Leeds for Sale. Busy location with lots of passing traffic and surrounded by a densely populated community.

"Within a parade of shops with lots of free parking and outside forecourt seating for customers. The rent is very reasonable at just £133 per week and the premises are surprisingly spacious and in exceptionally good condition. It is only on health grounds that the owner has decided to sell.

"Run on short openings from 7am to 2pm Monday to Saturday, there is lots of scope to introduce an online delivery service or to offer outside catering. Mid parade, ground floor lock-up premises with security roller shutters and a fully glazed frontage. Entry to attractive deli-counter and servery.

"Open plan kitchen, well fitted and equipped. Ample food prep and dry goods storage. Separate pot-wash area with exit to rear yard and waste bins. Staff WC and hand wash. EPC Band D."

On Friday, April 7, the owner thanked customers for their support on social media, and said: "Just to say a big thank you to all our customers for their continued support. Hope you all have a lovely Easter break."

Leeds Live has contacted Morning Star Sandwich Bar for a comment.
