Popular Lanarkshire gala day 'Summerfest' confirmed to return

A popular Lanarkshire gala day will return in June after two years off the calendar.

'Summerfest' is always a hit in Cambuslang, but the coronavirus pandemic forced it to be cancelled for two years running.

Now organisers have confirmed it will be back on June 18, taking over Cambuslang Main Street and bringing the community together again.

Summerfest committee members told Lanarkshire Live that although the gala day has suffered from funding hardships since the pandemic, they were still determined to bring it back.

John Edgar, the chairman of the group, told Lanarkshire Live : "It's been a tough couple of years - I don't know anyone that's not been affected by covid in some way.

"For Summerfest we've lost funding as well, but we wanted to keep going, so that it could be back up and running for the community. It's always been a day that's had great support here.

"Even in the years it's been teeming with rain, people have always come out and backed us.

"It's good, after the last couple of years, to have something going on for the area, and a low cost day out for the kids.

"Everyone is struggling these days with the cost of living and prices of everything going up. So it's important to give them a fun day for the area."

As always, there will be main stage entertainment on the day, along with the community champion awards being handed out, to honour those in Cambuslang who play their part in helping the area.

There will also be a number of stalls offering a wide range of goods. To book a stall costs £15 for community groups or £20 for businesses.

John added: "The other thing we are really needing is volunteers to help out. If anyone is interested it would be a good help to us."

Anyone interested in booking a stall or in getting involved with Summerfest should contact John on 0141 641 9119.

The day itself will run on Saturday, June 18 from 10am until 4.30pm.
