- Winn-Dixie is set to close its final two US locations in Birmingham, Alabama, by the end of March, after over 60 years of service in the city.
- The grocery chain is undergoing a rebranding to "The Winn-Dixie Company" and is shifting its primary focus to Florida, where it has acquired three Hitchcock’s Markets.
- Ahead of the closures, customers can benefit from 20 to 40 per cent discounts during closing-down sales at the affected stores.
- Winn-Dixie's parent company, Southeastern Grocers, has previously sold off stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi to competitors like Food City and Aldi.
- These closures follow Aldi's announcement two years ago to acquire 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys locations across the Southern US, with plans to convert some to its own brand while retaining others.
