The management at a popular Gateshead pub has announced its sudden closure.
The Mill House near Birtley will close "effective immediately" according to a post on Facebook from the the pub's management. The statement explains that the decision to close was a difficult one, but comes "after careful consideration".
A sign on the outside of the pub itself explains that "due to a gas supply issue" the management have had to close the pub "today". But online, the management revealed the situation would be permanent.
In the online post, the pub's management said: "To our customers, friends and family... We regret to inform you that we have had to close our business, effective immediately.
"This decision was not made lightly and comes after careful consideration of our current situation. We understand that this news may come as a disappointment and inconvenience to you. We appreciate your loyalty and support throughout the years and want to thank you for being a part of our journey.
"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. If you have purchased a gift voucher recently please contact us via email: manager@themillhousebirtley.co.uk."
The pub and restaurant, near to the Bowes Incline, was noted for its food - and back in 2018 it was devastated by fire.
