A popular family butchers which closed in Penarth last year after more than 50 years on the high street has announced it is returning in July.
Marcus Lush is bringing David Lush Butchers back to the town as Lushy's after more than a year away since leaving their Glebe Street home in the spring of 2022.
Marcus, son of David, said he made the decision following constant pleas from old customers for him to return to the town’s foodie scene. Following council approval for the business to start again from his base in Penarth Marcus said he’ll be delivering all of the old favourites to the people of the Vale of Glamorgan.

The closure of David Lush, which was based at Glebe Street in the town for 42 years, was accompanied by much sadness last year after the family had made a name for themselves as one of the most popular family butchers in south Wales.
“People have constantly been coming to me and asking me to bring it back,” Marcus told WalesOnline. “Christmas was the first in 30 years that I wasn't in a butchers. I found that really tough. People were still coming to me telling me how much they missed us and the seed was planted that there is still a desire for us to be here, and I thought: 'Why not bring it back in some form?'
“I’ve decided to have a unit built which is a little bigger than a shipping container and I’m kitting it out. I’ve bought a refrigerated van and I’m going to prepare and deliver it in the style of HelloFresh and Gusto. I’ll do weekly packs, weekend packs, barbecue packs, breakfast packs - things like that. Fingers crossed further down the line it’ll be making some money and I’ll have some funds to get a physical shop.”
Marcus, who hopes to be delivering from early July, admitted the last year has been hard on him mentally. “It’s all that I’ve known in my last 30 years of working and I perhaps hadn’t expected leaving it to be as hard as it’s been,” he said.
“I felt like I had a purpose and that purpose left me a bit to be honest. It’s been a difficult year and a half. I was good at it and I miss the interaction with the customers in particular, so why not bring it back? I can't tell you how excited I am to getting going again.”
