Popular Edinburgh ramen restaurant to battle for 'UK's best takeaway' title on new BBC show

An Edinburgh restaurant has revealed that they will be competing on a brand new BBC Two cookery show in order to fight for the right to be named Britain's Top Takeaway.

Ikigai Ramen in Edinburgh has announced on their Instagram that they will head into battle with various restaurants around the UK in an 'ultimate fry-off'.

On their social media, the takeaway posted: "Thanks to all of your support we were invited to appear BBC 2 in their new program ‘Britain’s Top Takeaways’ - We hope everyone manages to tune in to see some top level ramen making as well as all of the other amazing contestants!

"Be sure to tune in on the 19th of May at 8pm for our episode where our chefs Michael and Gabriel give it their all!"

According to Ikigai's website, the restaurant aims for, "bouncy, chewy, soft and perfect for slurping up our authentic broth, cooked over 8 hours for maximum flavour. Alongside this, we source only fresh high quality ingredients to bring you some of the tastiest ramen in town.

"We incorporate the Japanese concept of Ikigai which translates to 'reason to live'.

"Ikigai is about finding a sense of purpose in life, something that propels you out of bed each morning ready to live fully."

Presented by Sara Cox and Darren Harriot, each episode of Britain's Top Takeaways will see five of the nations’ award winning, highly rated and creative takeaways will compete in their own cuisine, cooking and delivering some of the finest take out the UK has to offer.

There is a whole range of different takeaways to choose from, fish and chips to pizza and even some Mexican action - our mouths are watering at the thought!

Judging the food and deciding who wins will be a host of takeaway-loving families who will eat, rate and score the food from the comfort of their own homes.

We wonder if you can apply to be a taster for the show too?

You can tune into Britain's Top Takeaways on BBC Two on May 9 at 8pm, and support Ikigai Ramen on May 19 at 8pm.
