Popular baby monitor recalled in Ireland as it is no longer safe

An urgent safety notice has been issued for a popular baby monitor which is "no longer safe to use."

The Bluebell Baby Monitor is sold online at Boots, McCabes Pharmacy, and Currys, however, there is a potential risk of the child not being monitored correctly if the device is used as an issue was found in its ability to transfer data between the app and monitor.

The monitor does not meet the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive, a regulatory framework for placing radio equipment on the market in the EU.

ComReg, the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the electronic communications sector in Ireland, issued a statement alerting people of the models which have been affected and urged people to stop using the implicated models.

In a statement on its website, a ComReg spokesperson said: "The product is no longer safe to use as there is an issue with the data transfer between the monitor and the app that supports the monitor system.

"There is a potential risk of the child not being monitored correctly. The product does not meet the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU."

The recalled models of Bluebell Baby Monitor, which were sold online at Boots, McCabes Pharmacy and Currys, are:

  • Bluebell Baby Monitor 9-in-1
  • Bluebell 8-in-1 HD Baby Camera Monitor
  • Bluebell Smart Baby Monitor
  • Bluebell Baby Monitor 7-in-1
  • Bluebell Baby Monitor
  • Bluebell Baby Cam

ComReg has advised that if you purchased one of these products to "please discontinue use immediately and contact your supplier to see if there are any remedies available to you."
