Owners of a popular cafe are being forced to give up their beloved Ayrshire premises.
Eva’s Cafe, managed by Gary Cunningham and his wife, have been on the receiving end of a staffing crisis, as has Gary’s other business Bar Luca in Kilmarnock.
Gary admits it’s the last thing he wants to do, but his chefs from Eva’s are needed at the Bank Street venue.
Eva’s is based in Evolution Gym at Kilmarnock’s Townholm, and gym owners are keen to keep the cafe running.
Revealing the news on social media, Eva’s owners said: “Unfortunately due to issues outwith our control Gary and his team will only be managing Eva’s Cafe for one more month. We are absolutely devastated to have come to this decision.
“Hospitality is facing a staffing crisis that we have never seen before.
“The trade has lost an unbelievable amount of staff since Covid surfaced.
“Unfortunately we are having to pull our chefs back in to our other venues to let them operate seven days per week.
“We believe we need to focus all our efforts on Bar Luca as we believe our staff should have a good work/life balance and will do our utmost to maintain that. This is one way of achieving those goals.
“Blair and Colin will be moving back to Bar Luca in order to strengthen the team we have in place.”
The post added: “The good news is the guys have been receiving great feedback on the quality of their food and you will still be able to sample it.
“The cafe has been a great success since we took it over and we will miss everyone at Evolution Gym.
“Keep your eye on Bar Luca’s page for any updates.
“The good news is the guys at Evolution will be keep the cafe operating and we wish them the best of luck.”
