The life of a 15-year-old girl who died after leaving to take her dog for a walk will be celebrated with a fund-raising dinner and auction.
Eve Lewis, a year 11 pupil at Burscough Priory Academy who dreamed of becoming a lawyer, died after being hit by a train at around 1.35pm on September 26, 2021. The 'bright and popular' teenager had been struggling with an eating disorder, which dramatically worsened during lockdown.
She was admitted to Southport and Ormskirk District General Hospital in May 2021, where she managed to gain 5kg before being discharged four weeks later. She continued to gain weight at her home, on Ainscough Drive, but was 'tormented' by the mental disorder until her death.

A year after her tragic death, a charity event hopes to raise money to help create a school programme educating children about the dangers of eating disorders.
Eve’s mum, Paula Lewis, said: “We always knew Eve would go on to do great things. Even though she is no longer with us, she is continuing to do good, and help others through the fundraising and education programme. That is a great comfort to us.
“I’d love to see as many people as possible at this event. We’d really like support from businesses too, to make this event and the programme a success in Eve’s memory. Donations of funds towards the education programme, and also prizes for the raffle will be gratefully received."
A spokesman said on behalf of her heartbroken family: "Eve was a popular and bright 15-year-old student in her final year when she died after battling anorexia. Although Eve had been making good progress in her treatment following an inpatient-admission period, Eve’s family believe she was still tormented by anorexia and was struggling to overcome the intense internal battle. This resulted in Eve tragically taking her own life whilst out walking her dog."
A fund-raising event – Eve’s Legacy Charity Dinner - in celebration of Eve's life will take place at the Bliss Hotel Southport, on the Waterfront, at 7.30pm on October 6. Organised by Eve's family, the dinner will raise funds for an education programme at Eve’s high school.
The programme will be facilitated by SEED - a specialist eating disorder charity based in Preston – to provide pupils with a crucial education and awareness programme.
The will be to promote self-esteem, self-acceptance and positivity in young people.
Founder and CEO of SEED Lancashire, Shelley Perry, said: “It’s an honour to be supporting Eve’s family in their plea to make a legacy for their beautiful daughter by educating schools and getting the information out there to help young people and their families with eating disorders."
Tickets for the Eve's Legacy Charity Dinner can be booked online at https://www.trybooking.co.uk/BTJH. People who want to donate money or raffle prizes are asked to call SEED on 01772 915735.
