Popular American food chain shuts Scottish store after four years

TACO Bell bosses have made the shock decision to shut a Scottish outlet less than four years after it opened.

A sign has been put up in the window of the Mexican-inspired fast food chain’s outlet in Greenock, at the Waterfront Retail Park, confirming that the eatery is now closed permanently.

The venue was one of just six in Scotland when it opened on April 8, 2021, and had both drive-thru and sit-in facilities.

Its opening followed the successful launches of outlets in Irvine, Linwood, and Glasgow.

At the time of its launch the outlet was said to have created around 40 new jobs, with the fast food restaurant itself having the capacity for 92 diners.

Planning permission for the development had originally been granted in 2019, but the project was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A sign fixed one of the branch’s windows states: “This store is now permanently closed.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your custom over the years.”

Taco Bell was contacted for comment.
