Pontins is under investigation amid claims it discriminated against Gypsies and Travellers. The holiday firm allegedly used an "undesirable guests" list which included a list of Irish surnames to prevent bookings from the groups.
It also monitored calls and stopped people with Irish accents or surnames from booking a break at one of its centres. If bookings were made these would be subsequently cancelled, says the equalities watchdog.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has now launched a formal investigation into Pontins over “continued concerns” it is discriminating against Gypsy and Traveller guests. In March last year, the owner of Pontins, Britannia Jinky Jersey Limited, entered into a 12-month legal agreement with the EHRC to prevent racial discrimination.
