The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft and they are expected to select a quarterback at that spot.
If the Bears land Caleb Williams or Drake Maye or even Jayden Daniels, Chicago would presumably be willing to trade away Justin Fields, a first-round pick in 2021 who has started 38 games over the last three years.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper has predicted that the Bears could land a first-round pick for Fields in a trade, but that seems extremely unlikely. Chicago is more likely to land a second-round pick (perhaps with mid- and late-round picks added on).
If they move on from Russell Wilson this spring, the Broncos will be in the market for a new starting quarterback.
Denver does not have a second-round pick in this year’s draft and the team seems unlikely to trade the 12th overall pick for Fields. The Broncos could, hypothetically, trade down from No. 12 to later in the first round while adding a second-round pick to then use in a trade for Fields.
Fields, 24, has completed 60.3% of his passes for 6,674 yards with 40 touchdowns against 30 interceptions with the Bears. He has also rushed 356 times for 2,220 yards and 14 scores.
