With the Tennessee Titans continuing to show no life in the midst of a 3-6 season, many fans have wondered if head coach Mike Vrabel should be in trouble moving forward.
It’s hard to fathom being at this point after the kind of success Vrabel had over his first four years with the team, but the questions about his future are warranted considering what we saw in the second half of last season and the first half of this one.
After finishing last season on a seven-game losing streak, the Titans have yet to win a game away from Nissan Stadium this season and it’s been a calendar year since they last won on the road. And, since that road win, the Titans are a miserable 3-13.
But it isn’t just about the wins and losses.
Vrabel and his coaches are making bad decisions on the regular, and Tennessee’s young players from previous draft classes simply aren’t developing.
Adding to that, there are questions about effort from the players, who are also incredibly undisciplined, which has only added to the mess this team is currently in.
Bottom line: the 2023 Titans don’t embody anything their head coach preaches.
In fairness to Vrabel, this team is bereft of talent in several key areas after the hatchet job Jon Robinson did to this franchise over his last few years, and general manager Ran Carthon couldn’t do much this past offseason with Tennessee’s limited cap space.
I don’t think the Titans will fire Vrabel after this season if this continues, nor do I think he’s on the hot seat. However, I do think his seat is starting to heat up for the first time in his tenure in Nashville and 2024 could be a make-or-break year for him.
