New Delhi: Several political leaders on Sunday cast their vote in the morning to elect councillors for Delhi Municipal Corporation. Among the early voters to exercise their franchise are BJP MP Parvesh Verma, senior Congress leader Ajay Maken, former Union Minister Harsh Vardhan and former MLA Alka Lamba.
Verma exuded confidence that the BJP would win with a thumping majority. Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to people to exercise their franchise. "My appeal to all the Delhiites - do go to cast your vote today to form an honest government in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi," Kejriwal wrote in a tweet.
At a polling station in North Delhi's Vijaynagar area , people were seen standing at a queue waiting for their turn to cast the vote. Voting is underway to elect councillors for 250-ward of Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) amid high security arrangement.
The polling began at 0800 hours and will continue till continue till 1730 hours. A total of 1349 candidates are trying their luck in the MCD polls. The counting of votes will be held on December 7. (UNI)
