It was said that the police van was not responding to an incident and that the collision with the car was sustained when driving along the road. A member of the public that was in the area at the time of the incident said that they helped open the doors on the vehicle to help officers get out of the upturned van.
Photos show the vehicle upside down, balancing on its front window screen and bonnet. The Kia car can be seen damaged facing toward railings at the side of the road.
