Police up patrols over 'car meets' on the A52 and A453 in Nottinghamshire

Police have upped patrols over reports of groups of cars 'gathering' on parts of the A52 and A453 in Nottinghamshire. Officers have been focusing on the stretch of the A52 between Edwalton and Gamston, and the A453 at Ratcliffe-on-Soar.

They say there have been complaints over "large volumes of cars meeting up". Officers have been on patrol to prevent vehicles from gathering and disperse the groups.

A statement from the Rushcliffe South Police Facebook page read: "On Tuesday night (October 4) during patrols across Rushcliffe, a number of vehicles were stopped and drivers spoken to, resulting in two drivers being issued traffic offence reports. To report road traffic offences in your area, please tell us about it."

Complaints had been made to the police over car enthusiasts' driving in the city and on the A453, an issue which stems back to last year. Just last year issues surrounding dangerous driving and car meets, during lockdown, were brought to the attention of Nottinghamshire Police. At one stage more than 300 vehicles gathered just off the A453 at East Midlands Parkway, prompting dispersal measures to be put in place.

Some residents had described the area as a "warzone". Tyre marks were also embossed on the tarmac on roads surrounding Ratcliffe on Soar power station. Advice was also given to car enthusiasts on the A453 by police in July.
