Forensics cordon off hundreds of graves as police find gun in cemetery

A number of graves were cordoned off by police after a gun and ammunition was found in a cemetery.

Merseyside Police received a call at 1.15pm on Tuesday (October 18) after a member of the public found a suspected gun in West Derby Cemetery. It was reported a bag containing a gun and ammunition was found.

Officers swarmed the area and put a cordon in place covering hundreds of grave stones. Forensics officers were seen kneeling down on the floor next to a plot of graves with a number of evidence bags.

A former Liverpool FC player was jailed for his part in a huge Encrochat drug conspiracy.

Layton Maxwell, the former Reds midfielder, was 19 when he scored during his debut at Anfield in 1999, but has now been jailed for eight years for his part in a major drug conspiracy. Maxwell was one of 14 men sentenced to a total of 140 years at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, October 14.

The gang members, using encrypted devices, organised the distribution of multi kilograms of cocaine and heroin and the collection and transport of significant quantities of cash. Over 50kg of heroin and cocaine and over £700,000 cash has been seized as part of this investigation.

Bullies film sickening attack on schoolgirl as 'people walk by'

A schoolgirl was kicked in the head in a sickening attack filmed on a mobile phone.

Evie Mutch, from Speke, was choked, knocked to the ground and kicked by a group of girls at around 6.30pm on Friday, October 14, as dozens of people reportedly walked past. The 15-year-old's mum Carol said her daughter "could have been killed" following the incident outside St John's shopping centre.

The teenager suffers from pulmonary atresia, a life-threatening heart defect which prevents blood flowing to the lungs. She has undergone multiple heart surgeries, and is currently awaiting a further operation to replace an artificial valve as she grows.
