Police stop pedestrians and drivers in area where missing Scots man was last seen as search continues

Officers have stepped up inquiries in the search for a missing Scots man who vanished two weeks ago.

Police have been stopping pedestrians and motorists as part of their investigations to trace Alexander McMillan.

The last sighting of the 46-year-old was captured on CCTV at midnight on Tuesday, April 26.

He had been on Manse Road, near Howe Road in Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire.

A frantic search operation was launched to find the Alexander, with locals carrying out community searches on a regular basis.

Police have stopped seven pedestrians and 11 motorists in the area in a desperate bid to trace Alexander as his family become "extremely worried" over his whereabouts.

As concerns mount, the force is re-appealing to the public for information.

In particular, they are asking for anybody who may have been in the area at the time of Alexander's disappearance to come forward.

Officers describe the 46-year-old as white, around 6ft 1in, with receding hair and a large bushy beard.

When he was reported missing, Alexander was wearing a navy hooded jumper, a baseball cap, grey trousers or jogging bottoms and dark coloured Adidas Gazelle trainers.

He was also carrying two rucksacks - one white and grey with a ‘Timberland logo’ and the other was blue, white and grey striped.

He was seen carrying a fishing rod in a carry case.

Inspector Susan Rae of Cumbernauld Police Station said: “Alexander’s family are extremely worried about him. They want to make sure he is safe and well and urge him to get in touch if he sees this appeal.

“It’s now been two weeks since Alexander was last seen and it’s not like him not to be in contact with friends or family for this length of time.

“Extensive searches and enquiries continue in the Kilsyth area and I would like to thank the public for their support and assistance with our enquiries.

“Anyone who thinks they may have seen Alexander or has dashcam footage of the area around Manse Road from the time he was last seen is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1579 of 27 April, 2022
