A man charged with murder will be held in custody until August as police continue to search for the alleged victim's body in regional Victoria.

Kayle Hansen, 25, has been charged with the murder of Jake Bradford, 21, who was reported missing by his mother in late January.

Multiple search warrants, further statements and CCTV examination would be ongoing, as would the search for the victim's body, police prosecutor Gary Steel told Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court on Monday.

Senior Constable Steel said there could be others involved in the crime.

"There are extensive inquiries to be made into any potential co-offenders."

Two vehicles have been seized in the investigation and police are awaiting roughly 20 statements.

Investigators believe Mr Bradford, a Korumburra man, got into an altercation on January 24 in Foster North in southeastern Victoria.

Magistrate Peter Reardon said there could be no application for bail due to the nature of the crime.

Outlining custody matters, Mr Hansen's lawyer, Jason Milides, said the accused was suffering from ice withdrawal, mental health issues and a broken hand.

"I've spoken with a mental health worker who's interviewed him ... she advised me that he's suffering from depressive symptoms and could potentially suffer from self harm," he said.

A committal mention for the matter will be heard in Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court on August 25.
