West Yorkshire Police have confirmed a 15-car pile-up shut the M1 near Leeds this morning.
The huge smash happened close to J47 of the M1 Northbound at 6.46am, shutting the motorway and causing huge delays. West Yorkshire Police officers, Yorkshire Ambulance, and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews have been at the scene since around 7am. The motorway has recently reopened but there are still long delays in the area.
There was at five miles of congestion around 8.45am, leading from J47 at Garforth and Micklefield to J45 at Leeds Cross Grreen. At 8.27am National Highways reported there were 50-minute delays.

At the time of writing, the latest update from our traffic and travel partner Inrix reads: "Slow traffic and delays due to earlier accident, multiple vehicles involved on M1 Northbound at J47 A656 (Garforth / Micklefield). All lanes have been re-opened.
"The road had been closed for much of this morning, causing delays."
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 6.46am today (Wednesday) police received a report of several vehicles being involved in a collision close to junction 47 of the M1 Northbound. Emergency services attended the scene and found damage had been caused to 15 vehicles. There are no reports of serious injuries."
