Police shout 'everyone stay inside' as they smash shop windows

Police shouted for people to "stay inside" as they smashed up two shop windows.

A number of Merseyside Police vans arrived at a row of shops on Jamaica Street in the Baltic Triangle on Friday afternoon (May 19). Once they arrived eyewitnesses reported how officers started smashing the windows of Baltic Dream and Sub City.

Police later put a cordon in place around the businesses, which are on the same row of shops, and were seen brushing up shattered glass off the pavement. Two police vans and a patrol car were seen parked up beside the cordon.

One eyewitness who was working on the road at the time of the incident said: "We had an event on and were setting up and I just noticed the police van and then a saw went off. They [Merseyside Police] said 'everyone stay inside' and I saw them smashing windows.

"It looked like some sort of raid."

Another man said: "They [the business] were closed, the police came and then they got inside."

Merseyside Police were approached for comment.
