Police share signs your neighbour could be growing cannabis as 100 plants seized

Police officers have warned residents of the potential signs of cannabis being grown after 100 plants were found in a property. Acting on intelligence from the community, Ilkeston Police searched a property on Queen Elizabeth Way just after 1.15pm on Tuesday, January 24, with the help of firearm officers and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue.

Around 100 cannabis plants were discovered inside the property along with equipment. All of the items have been seized and the grow has dismantled. In a Facebook Post, Ilkeston Police wrote: "Thank you to those in the community who helped us find the cannabis grow.

"Cannabis grows pose a serious risk, particularly when residential properties are used, with electricity sources often bypassed in an illegal and dangerous manner, with serious fires caused as a result. There are a number of signs that may indicate that cannabis may be being grown in your area."

Some of these signs include the windows of a property being covered or curtains being permanently closed. Officers have also warned of a loud of distinctive sound of fans whirring, a large number of food deliveries being made to a property, a distinct smell of cannabis from the property, and if nobody has ever been seen living inside the address.

If you believe a cannabis grow may be in your area you should inform the police by calling 101, sending them a private message on social media or report it on their website. You can also anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
