Police seize cocaine worth £2m, £25k of clothes and £20k cash in major drugs raids

Cocaine worth an estimated £2 million has been seized by police after major drugs raids. Two men - aged 29 and 30 - were arrested and remained in custody on Tuesday, Greater Manchester Police said.

Both were held on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and are being questioned by detectives in Rochdale. The raids also saw clothing valued at £25,000 recovered, together with £20,000 in cash.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Serious and Organised Crime Group arrested the men in Rochdale as part of an ongoing operation to target the supply of Class A drugs, said the force in a statement.

GMP said premises on Ashton Gardens and Overt Street - both just outside Rochdale town centre - were searched after warrants were executed on Monday, together with a premises on Hawthorn Road in Bamford, Rochdale.

In a statement, GMP said: "Officers searched premises on Ashton Gardens, Overt Street and Hawthorn Road in Rochdale, recovering drugs with a street value of £2,000,000, clothing valued at over £25,000 and cash to the value of £20,000.

"The two males remain in custody at this time while police enquiries are ongoing." No further details have been revealed. Both men have not been named.

Chief Superintendent Nicky Porter, from GMP's Rochdale division, said: "GMP have had another fantastic result in seizing significant amounts of drugs and taking offenders off the streets.

"Locally we know the reality and misery of drug addiction. This isn't a faceless crime. It's organised and our community want drugs off our streets. We will continue in our endeavour to take out those criminals who gain from drug supply and exploit vulnerable people."

Chief Inspector Muzemil Kernain, also from the Rochdale division, said: "The dedicated work by Greater Manchester Police's Serious and Organised Crime Group is a clear demonstration of how seriously we take concerns over drugs and the misery that they inflict upon our communities.

"With the support of the residents of Rochdale we will continue our relentless pursuit of criminals."
