Police seize 'Batman wannabe' car being driven around Manchester city centre

A car that police described as a 'Batman wannabe' has been seized in Manchester city centre. Officers from the Greater Manchester Police traffic division say they saw the driver of the jet-black car revving his engine while driving around the city.

After checks, they determined that there was no insurance on the car, so officers seized the vehicle and left the driver to make his way home on the bus.

In the early hours of this morning (January 28, Greater Manchester Police said on Twitter: "GMP Traffic saw this Batman Wannabe over revving his engine whilst driving round the city tonight. However, Alfred forget to insure the fake Dark Knight's ride, so we did the Joker a favour and seized the Batmobile. 'KA-POW 'he's now on the bus back to Wayne Manor."

Gov.uk says that it is illegal to drive a vehicle on a road or in a public place without at least third-party insurance. Even if the vehicle itself is insured, if the driver is not correctly insured to drive it they could be penalised.

The police are permitted to give a fixed penalty of £300 and six penalty points, while if the case goes to court the offender could get an unlimited fine and be disqualified from driving. The police also have the power to seize, and in some cases, destroy a vehicle being driven uninsured.
