Witnesses report vehicle travelling at 'high speed' before it crashed into tree

A single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Sternberg Crescent and Wheeler Crescent in Wanniassa on Wednesday was caused by dangerous driving, police suspect.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and footage following alleged dangerous driving involving a grey sedan.

About 5.15pm on Wednesday, July 15, officers attended a single-vehicle collision at the intersection in Wanniassa.

A grey Hyundai Elantra failed to negotiate a bend before it left the road and hit a tree near the intersection, police said.

Witnesses reported that the grey Hyundai, bearing ACT registration YFP14K, was travelling along Sternberg Crescent at high speed before the collision, police said.

Investigators are seeking to identify the circumstances leading up to the collision and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the vehicle being driven in the area, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of it from last Wednesday to come forward.

Anyone who can assist police should provide their contact details to Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8444119.
