Police in Mexico are hunting for a Nessie-style monster said to be living in the depths of a reservoir by a massive dam.
The monster - more than 5,000 miles away from Scotland's Loch Ness - has reportedly been spotted by locals apparently swimming in the lake's deep waters.
Civic leaders and police have been swamped by reported sightings, with a photograph said to show the monster making the rounds on social media after being posted to the local town hall website.
The photograph shows what seems to be a dark body which could be a fin or a curved back emerging from the waters of the Madin Dam Basin.
Now local town hall officials in the city of Atizapan de Zaragoza, in the Mexican state of Mexico, have ordered police to patrol the lake looking to get to the bottom of the sightings.
Locals believe that - like Nessie's legend - the monster is a left-behind dinosaur which has developed in isolation.
According to Atizapan civic leaders, people say that a Mexican Nessie lives at the bottom of the reservoir and protects the area.
The authorities have said that patrols around the lake will solve the mystery of what lies below the surface.
Local media quoted the Atizapan Town Hall as saying in a statement: "This fact adds to comments from residents of Atizapan, who assure that a dinosaur lives at the bottom of the dam, which protects the place."
They added: "At the request of the citizens, the government of Atizapan de Zaragoza will carry out patrols around the place to clear up the mystery."
Not everyone, though, is convinced.
Some - according to local media - believe the monster could be a huge crocodile while others say it might simply be a large blob of poo from sewage water.
Many also seem to be against human intervention with some saying "leave the poor animal in peace" and "don't go and kill it".
Whatever it is, the local authorities are apparently taking the matter seriously and have reportedly surrounded the reservoir with patrols to get to the bottom of the multiple sightings.
