Police search for firearm in Clifton skatepark leaves community concerned

Neighbours living near a Nottingham skatepark have told of their fears after seeing armed officers and sniffer dogs in their area. It comes as Nottinghamshire Police responded to reports of a group of men acting suspiciously at Clifton Skate Park, in Farnborough Road, Clifton, at around 1.30pm, on Sunday, June 26.

The force has now said that they have been made aware of reports a firearm could be in the area. Officers searched the area, but no firearm was found, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing, the force added. Naomi Findlay, who lives in the area, said: "We did try to ask an officer what happened but they would not say anything.

"With everything that happened two weeks ago, it makes you worried." The 37-year-old carer said: "There was a helicopter, armed officers and sniffer dogs.

"I have got four children and one of them goes into the skate park quite a lot. Obviously it was all cordoned off, and they were near the skate park and luckily they did not witness or hear anything."

James Dean, who works in construction and lives in the area, said: "It was alarming. Everyone has had enough."

The 28-year-old added: "There was a gun unit here. It is concerning. Everyone is fed up with being vigilant. It is just a bit sad. I have lived here all my life. It is getting worse."

David James, who also works in construction, has echoed the concerns, adding: "I saw it on Facebook. It is concerning because we do not know what happened."

Detective Inspector Danny Johnstone, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers responded to reports of a group of men acting suspiciously in Clifton Skate Park, Clifton, at around 1.30pm, yesterday (26 June). We were made aware of reports a firearm could be in the area and conducted a thorough search.

“No firearm was found as a result. This remains an ongoing investigation so I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time or who heard or saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 394 of 25 June 2023, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
