Police scrambled to Greater Manchester street after reports of man making threats and 'carrying blade'

Emergency services scrambled to a Tameside street as police hunted a man believed to be carrying a weapon. Greater Manchester Police was called out to Market Street, in Denton, at around 9am this morning (January 5).

It followed reports of a man 'acting aggressively', who was believed to have been carrying a blade. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area.

A National Police Air Service helicopter was also used as part of the search. Police arrested a man at the scene but no weapon was found, GMP says.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At approximately 9am today (Thursday, January 5 2023), officers were called to reports of a disturbance on Market Street in Denton. It was reported that a man was acting aggressively and making threats.

"It was also reported that he might be armed with a suspected bladed article and specialist officers were deployed to the scene. A man was arrested and taken into police custody where he remains for questioning.

"No injuries were reported and no evidence of a bladed article was recovered."
