THE blaze at Arthur’s Seat has been extinguished as fire crews left the scene on Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) control room said crews left around 1pm after making themselves content that all hotspots were extinguished.
It comes after a report was received for a grassfire on Arthur’s Seat at about 6.30pm on Sunday evening, with four appliances sent to the scene in Edinburgh.
Area commander David Dourley, local senior officer for Edinburgh, said: “Our crews remained on scene until today, working to extinguish remaining hotspots and dampen down the area.
“I would like to thank all of our crews for their work and our partners for their support. I would also like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.”
A report was received for a grassfire on Arthur’s Seat at about 6.30pm on Sunday evening, with four appliances sent to the scene in Edinburgh.
At 6.30am on Monday, six appliances were tackling the fire after crews worked through the night.
Residents in the local area were advised to keep windows and doors closed, and the public was urged to avoid the area.
Queen’s Drive was also closed for a couple of days because of the fire.
It is understood that SFRS will continue to monitor the area and re-attend as needed if there are any further reports of fire.
A very high risk of wildfire warning remains in place for Eastern, Southern and Central Highland parts of Scotland.
Dourley added: “We also urge people to remain vigilant during this hot spell of weather, and to follow our advice to take care outdoors to help us avoid fires as much as possible.”
