- A security guard shot and killed a suspect who rammed a car into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, Thursday, police say.
- The Department of Homeland Security identified attacker as Ayman Mohamad Ghazali. He was born in Lebanon in 1985 and became a U.S. citizen in 2016.
- The suspect, who was armed with a rifle, drove his vehicle into a building at Temple Israel shortly before 1 p.m. A security officer was hit by the car and knocked unconscious, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
- The vehicle caught fire after the crash and smoke could be seen billowing from the synagogue. The motive in the attack just outside Detroit was not immediately clear, but mortars were found inside the suspect’s car, CNN reported, citing law enforcement sources.
- Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said no kids or staff members were injured and that the suspect “was traveling with purpose down the hall, from my look at the video.”
- FBI Director Kash Patel said agents were on the scene of an “apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation” at the synagogue, and footage showed smoke billowing from the building.
