Police release footage of teenager on moped hours before fatal Peckham stabbing

Detectives have released footage of a teenager riding his moped hours before he was fatally stabbed in Peckham.

Police responded to reports of an assault in Rye Lane, near the junction of Heaton Road, at 7.07pm on Saturday, February 14.

The 18-year-old was found close to the scene and received emergency care from the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance.

He was rushed to hospital but died despite the best efforts of medical staff.

A week on from the attack, police have released footage of the victim on his moped that evening as detectives urge anyone with information to come forward.

No arrests have been made but detectives are working to find his killers.

Detective Inspector Christina Clayton, from the Met's Specialist Crime unit, said: "Peckham Rye is a busy area - densely populated with residents, pedestrians, public transport users and drivers – which means there is a potential for witnesses.

"We would like to speak to anyone who was in the Peckham Rye area, particularly Rye Lane, on Saturday evening between 18:00hrs and 19:30hrs. If you have any doorbell or dashcam footage from this time in the area, please contact us too.

"You may think it is something small, but it may make a massive difference to our investigation.

"We recognise that talking to the police can be daunting. We are here to listen and there are lots of ways to speak to us anonymously – including through Crimestoppers.

"Our detectives continue to tirelessly to secure justice for the victim and his family and thank the public, particularly the local community, for their support."

Those with information are asked to contact the Met via 101, quoting investigation reference 6065/14Feb. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
