Police release CCTV image of man they want to speak to after lock on MP's office was glued

Police want to speak to this man after the lock of an MP's constituency office was glued. Stickers were also plastered on the door.

The offices of Crewe and Nantwich Conservative MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, were targeted for the bizarre act on October 16th. The premises are on Edleston Road, Crewe, and is thought the damage was done between 7.30am and 5pm.

In a statement to Cheshire Live, Dr Mullan said: "Stickers and protests are part and parcel of being in politics and I don't have a problem with that within reason. But when people damage things like locks, it is taxpayers money being wasted repairing them.

"That isn’t on. It also compromises the security of the office and it’s never far from my mind that my colleague David Amess was murdered a year ago. We live in a democracy and people have lots of ways to make their views known, but there are limits.”

The suspect is described as white, wearing grey shoes with a white sole, grey pants, and a black zip up hoody with the hood up. He was also wearing glasses. PC Lorna Allix said: "We’d urge anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image to contact us. We’d also ask that the man in the CCTV contacts us so that we can progress our enquiries.”

Dr Mullan was selected as the Conservative candidate for the Crewe and Nantwich seat in September 2018. At the time he was a clinical lead at the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership. He won the marginal seat defeating sitting Labour MP, Lauara Smith by 8,508 votes.

During his election victory speech he said he would "speak up for, and work for, staff" at the NHS and increase the number of GPs. Dr Mullan has been a member of the Justice Select Committee since March 2020. In 2020, while serving as an MP, he returned to his role as a doctor to volunteer during the COVID pandemic.
