A drunken off-duty police officer was “intimidating, disrespectful and discriminatory” towards a member of the public on a train, it is alleged. PC Steven Marshall is also accused of boarding a first-class carriage without a valid ticket and showing his warrant card when challenged.
The officer, who has since resigned from Avon & Somerset Police, faces a misconduct hearing starting at force headquarters in Portishead on Monday, June 12. A publicity notice on the constabulary website said PC Marshall, who was a student officer based in Bridgwater, allegedly breached the standards of professional behaviour for police officers in terms of discreditable conduct; honesty and integrity; equality and diversity; and authority, respect and courtesy.
It says that, if proven, this amounts to gross misconduct. The notice said: “It is alleged that: In November 2021, whilst off-duty, PC Marshall boarded a train and sat in the first-class carriage despite not holding a valid ticket which allowed him to do so.
