A Queensland police officer has been charged with serious sexual offences including rape.
Police said the 55-year-old man was a senior constable from the far northern region.
"He has been suspended from the Queensland Police Service," a police statement said.
The man has been charged with four counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault.
Police said the charges relate to alleged incidents that occurred while off-duty.
"It will be further alleged he was known to the victim," a police statement said.
He is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on March 21.
