Police have today named a suspect after an elderly woman was robbed in the street.
At around 12.30pm on Tuesday, June 13, police received a report that a man with a knife threatened staff at McColl's on County Road in Walton, before running away with two bottles of alcohol. A short time later, a woman in her 80s was followed by a man as she walked along Walton Road.
The victim, in her 80s, was grabbed and after a struggle, a gold cross and chain was stolen from around her neck. She suffered minor injuries in the robbery, police said.
Paul Whalley, of Naseby Street, Walton, has now been charged in connection with two robberies. The 32-year-old will appear in court today, Thursday, June 22.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We have charged a 32 year-old man with two robberies. At 12.30pm on Tuesday 13th June we received a report that a male had threatened staff at McColl’s convenience store on County Road with a knife before making off with bottles of alcohol.
"A short time later a woman in her 80s was followed by a male as she walked along Walton Road. The male grabbed her and following a brief struggle a gold cross and chain was stolen from around her neck. The pensioner suffered minor injuries in the struggle.
" Paul Whalley, of Naseby Street, Walton, has been charged with two robberies. He was remanded into custody and is due to appear before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates today, Thursday 22nd June."
