Two people were arrested after a burglary that shut a major road in Merseyside.
Merseyside Police shut Lord Street in Southport following a break-in at a jewellers on Monday, March 21. Police were quick to the scene following a gang on motorbikes targeting Rebecca's Jewellers.
One man from Liverpool was arrested on London Road, just off Lord Street, with Sefton Police Facebook page now confirming that further arrests were made shortly after the removal of the cordon. The Facebook page posted a detailed update in an attempt to dispel myths that Southport Police Station is closed.

Police officers based at Southport Police Station arrested a 44-year-old man on Lord Street for breach of a sex offender order and when taken to custody he was also arrested on suspicion of theft.
Shortly after this arrest, Southport neighbourhood officers arrested a 32-year-old man on Cable Street who was wanted on suspicion of burglary of a town centre shop. The post went into detail that these arrests were only made due to the strong local knowledge of officers based in Southport.
The Sefton Police page hit out at people who make comments about Southport Police Station being shut, with people encouraged to share the post with those who make the comments. The post acknowledged the "myths" and made an effort to correct the misinformation.
The post said: "We would like to thank residents and visitors to Southport today, Tuesday 22nd March, for their co-operation while the road closures were in place on Lord Street, following the burglary at a Lord Street jewellers. We understand how much disruption and inconvenience this caused, but the expansive crime scene was necessary to allow a prompt and effective investigation to take place.
"Neighbourhood Officers based at Southport Police Station, on patrol in town, were first on the scene of the burglary last night and were responsible for the arrest of one of the suspects. Today, Southport Neighbourhood Officers, with assistance from other teams across Sefton, have managed the multiple points of the crime scene.
"Following the opening up of Lord Street this afternoon, Southport Neighbourhood Officers arrested a 44 year old man on Lord Street for breach of a sex offender order. At custody the man was found in possession of a stolen mobile phone, so he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft of the phone as well.
"Shortly after this, Southport Neighbourhood officers arrested a 32 year old man on Cable Street, wanted on suspicion of burglary and theft of a town centre shop. These arrests were possible because we have a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team based at Southport Police Station, with strong local knowledge of the area and of local offenders, and who don’t work 9-5, as some would have you believe.
