VIZIANAGARAM: Motorcyclists beware, loud thump can land you in trouble. Vizianagaram traffic police have launched a drive to check bike silencers, and also other documents including driving licence.
Traffic cops are not only imposing a fine of 1,000 to 2,000 on motorists with altered bike silencers but are also seizing the vehicles. They will return vehicles only on production of a regular one.
"We have observed that the craze for loud silencers among the youngsters is going up in Vizianagaram town and also in a few other parts of the district. Those riding Royal Enfield bikes, Duke and other high-end vehicles are replacing the original silencers with modified ones with loud sound," police said.
DSP (traffic) L Mohan Rao said they have launched a special drive against the tampered silencers. "We have booked cases against 30 motorists on the first day. We will continue the drive for some more days," he added.
"We are appealing the motorists to remove such silencers voluntarily," police added.
