Lifeboats join search for missing Scot after he vanishes overnight

Police are appealing for information after a young man vanished from Angus.

Michael Shaun Carle was last seen at around 11.30pm on Tuesday in the West Abbey Street area of Arbroath.

The 25-year-old is described as five foot, eight inches tall with short, facial hair.

When last seen, Michael was wearing a purple fleece, brown chinos and white trainers.

Tayside Police Division launched an appeal late on Wednesday night.

Both of Arbroath RNLI's lifeboats were also sent out in a bid to assist the multi-agency search for Michael.

The crew scoured the shoreline and along the town's cliffs between Whiting Ness and Auchmithie.

They looked for two hours but found nothing.

A spokesperson from the force said: "Police in Arbroath are appealing for help to trace Michael Shaun Carle who has been reported missing.

"Michael was last seen about 11.30pm on Tuesday, May 24 in the West Abbey Street area of Arbroath.

"Anyone with any information can contact Police on 101 or using the Contact Us form on the Police Scotland website, or report anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

"You can get and give information about crime 100 per cent anonymously though Fearless which is a dedicated young person's charity. Reporting crime is easy at fearless.org, fill in their simple online form without fear of having to reveal your identity.

"Missing People Services operate a free helpline seven days a week from 9am till 11pm for anyone who is thinking of going missing, is currently missing, or has friends or family who are missing.

"This can be accessed by phone or text on 116 000. For further details please visit their website.

"Please use reference number PS-20220525-1821 when contacting police."
